The lower ground floor of this Georgian house is transformed by lowering the ground level by half a metre to create a generous ceiling height for the new kitchen/dining area, as well as a new WC room beneath the stair. The spine wall of the house is fully removed creating a bright open space.
A new connection to the garden is created through the addition of a double door with external steps leading up to the garden level. The existing and new openings to the garden are framed with rendered reveal.
The material palette creates a warm interior, with oak cupboard doors and a free-standing oak island. An exposed aggregate floor extends to the new external stair, creating a strong connection between interior and exterior. Distinctive tiles for the splashback add further texture to the natural material palette.
